Electrolysis

Luminescence Spa in Burlington has a highly skilled electrolysis professional who can help you remove unwanted hair permanently. Please note that the time required to completely deaden and remove hair is variable with each individual.
Electrolysis treatments are a form of electrical epilation where a needle is inserted into the hair follicle and literally applies a zap of electrical current to the area. When professionally performed, electrolysis results are comparable to those of laser hair removal, and may offer even more permanent results for people who are otherwise not a candidate for laser hair removal (i.e. people with extremely dark skin, or someone who has red, blonde or gray hair).

Electrolysis Questions and Answers

What are the causes of superfluous or abnormal hair growth?
There can be a number of causes. Heredity and genetics can be a definite cause. Certain medications can stimulate hair growth. Glandular imbalances or defects may be present especially during puberty, pregnancy or menopause. Acquired causes may be from tweezing, waxing or depilatories.

Is electrolysis approved and safe?
Yes. Physicians and medical professionals agree that electrolysis is the only method which can remove unwanted hair permanently.

Does it hurt?
Each individual's pain tolerance level varies. Some people find it uncomfortable while others can fall asleep during treatment. Options for managing tolerance to treatment will be discussed on an individual basis.

Is electrolysis really permanent hair removal?

Yes. Once the papilla has been completely coagulated as a result of treatments, it can no longer supply the hair root with life-sustaining nourishment.

Will any hair grow back?
Yes, a small percentage depending on many factors which we can explain to you in person. Because hair grows in stages, all hair in a given area will not be visible on the surface at the same time. Therefore, the hair may appear a few days following treatment, but these hairs have come from follicles which were not previously treated. These are new hairs and not regrowth hairs.

How frequently do I need to come in?

After a thorough examination, we will advise you of an appropriate treatment schedule. The importance of regularity of treatment cannot be over emphasised.
